Writing an effective resume is not at all an easy task. Lot of care and much more formatting is necessary to achieve a striking layout because the layout of the CV is just as important as the contents. So here I will give you some essential tips on Resume Layout.

1. Choose a suitable font
The layout of the resume depends largely on the type of font that you have chosen. You can select standard fonts like the Times New Roman, Arial, Georgia or Calibri. The font should be easily readable. The size of the text will wholly depend on the font. The size should neither be too small nor too large.

2. There should be a proper margin
You should always leave a proper margin on sides, top and bottom of the page. The margin should be one or one and a half inches broad. Another thing you need to keep in mind is that the margin should always remain constant throughout the resume.

3. Headings
The headings and subheadings are an essential part of your resume. They attract the employer towards it. All the headings should be larger and bolder than the rest of the text. The heading can either be in upper or the lower case but make sure that they are very well defined.

4. Try to fit your resume in one page
It is always advisable that the resume should fit in one page but its length often depends on attainments and achievements of a particular person applying for the job. If you can not fit your CV in one page then either you should look for another layout or should delete all the irrelevant and unnecessary information from it.

5. Avoid using more than one font
If you are using a particular font then try to continue with it also for the rest of your resume. The practice of using two or more fonts should be avoided. Fancy and stylish fonts will make the whole text unprofessional rather than creative.

6. You bullets and points
If you are writing your experiences and qualifications in bullets and points then it is likely that it would catch the eyes of your employer more easily. Bullets and points give the resume an over all neat and well designed look. Now days no one likes the practice of reading long and boring paragraphs.

7. Use a good quality of paper
Using a bad quality yellowish paper would only give a bad impression to your employer about you. Always make sure the while sending the resume through post, you use a good quality white paper. If you are not applying for a design and other creative jobs then never try to print your resume on a colored paper.
